One statement is one monthly bank or credit card statement for one account. A client with a chequing account and two credit cards over one month counts as three statements.
Nothing breaks. Any statements above your monthly cap are billed at your plan's per-statement rate ($4.25 on Starter, $3.30 on Growth, $3.00 on Scale). If you are consistently over, we'll reach out to move you to the plan that saves you the most.
